An editorial comparison
AprilAire E070 vs Santa Fe Compact70: access, ducting and drainage
Two gravity-drain 70-pint candidates. Compare the cabinet, filter-removal space and duct plan before choosing for a sealed crawl space.

The useful difference
Start with Compact70 when its shorter cabinet and documented outlet arrangement suit the access route. Start with E070 when its duct and control plan suits your installation. Both need a downhill drain or a separate pump. A shared 70-pint rating does not establish equal output in your crawl space.

Equal headline capacity is only the starting point
Both list 70 US pints/day at 80°F and 60% RH. E070 also lists 53 at 73°F/60% RH; the Compact70 record includes 43.7 at 65°F/60% RH. Those cooler figures are different regimes, so they cannot establish which is better in a cool crawl space. Ask for a capacity assessment based on moisture entry, sealing and airflow, not a square-foot claim alone.
Measure the hatch and the filter-removal route
The recorded E070 cabinet is 12.5 inches high and wide, 25 inches deep; Compact70 is 12 by 12 by 21. This gives Compact70 a shorter recorded body, but neither dimension includes a complete service envelope. The E070 manual calls for 15 inches for filter extraction. Compact70 instructions show 11 inches on the return/filter side and 24 on the supply side, alongside a general 12-inch airflow instruction. Resolve the exact arrangement before using a tight layout.
Treat the duct accessories as part of the purchase
E070 documents 8-inch inlet and outlet connections. Compact70 supports optional ducting; the retailer’s older installation review explains a rotatable exhaust panel and a separate hanging kit. Use that review to understand the options, then confirm today’s kit and orientation in the current manual. A supported duct connection is not permission to use any length, bend or HVAC tie-in.
The base models do not pump uphill
Both base models drain by gravity. AprilAire documents an optional 4856 pump with a 22-foot lift claim; Santa Fe documents an optional 4022220 pump with a 12-foot lift claim. Those belong to separate accessories, not the dehumidifier itself. Match the pump, overflow protection and discharge route to the installation. Also allow for any elevation required for the gravity trap.
Monitoring and evidence are separate decisions
E070 here is the base model. E070W is a separate Wi-Fi profile; do not assume its controls or accessories are included with E070. The external material below includes a retailer placement review and an installer sizing explanation. Neither establishes a reliability winner. Check the exact quote, available service and replacement-filter access after the physical layout passes.

E070 and E080 sizing: the crawl-space conditions an installer checks
Family context: Named E070/E080 family; article does not identify tested hardware revisions
This installer starts with encapsulation, air sealing, open vents and divided crawl-space areas before recommending E070 or E080. The distinction is useful: floor area describes the space, but does not describe all the incoming moisture or whether air can circulate between sections. Use the article as a checklist for an assessment, alongside the exact model manual and a measured installation plan.
- Setting / method
- Written installer explanation and commercial service recommendations; no instrumented side-by-side test.
- What this does not prove
- Service provider selling encapsulation and installation. Its square-foot rules and sound claims are not universal guarantees or independent test results.

Compact70 placement: rotatable outlet, hanging kit and controls
Earlier version / historical context: Compact70 described in March 2023; current part 4044110 equivalence not established
Sylvane describes rotating the discharge panel for vertical exhaust and using a separately purchased hanging kit between joists. The article also covers optional ducting and the onboard humidity dial. This is useful when planning access and accessories, but the installation still needs space for ducts, filter removal and a downhill drain. The retailer’s stated coverage is not a sizing guarantee.
- Setting / method
- Retailer editorial review with placement discussion and published specification tables; no repeatable test protocol or raw results supplied.
- What this does not prove
- The retailer sells this brand. The 2023 unit is not identified by current part number or refrigerant; measurements, warranty wording and accessory fit must be checked against current documents.
