A buying decision, explained
What should a crawl-space dehumidifier installation quote include?
Compare installation proposals by exact unit, access, drain equipment, ducts, controls and commissioning instead of an unsupported average price.

The decision first
Compare complete proposals for the same installation scope. Ask for the exact model/SKU, access assessment, drain route, ducts or controls, service clearances and commissioning. An appliance-only price and a full installation quote are different purchases.
See the model checks below ↓Define the problem and the scope first
Give each installer the same temperature/RH observations, space sketch, access measurements and proposed drain destination. Separate equipment installation from water-entry, sealing or other building work. Ask what is included in the recommendation and which assumptions remain to be verified on site. We do not supply a national average installation price: without a common scope, location and measured proposals, that number would not tell you which quote is complete.
- State which areas need moisture control and any divided sections.
- Provide the clear access opening and turning route.
- Identify the lowest relevant inlet-air temperature.
- List building work separately from the appliance installation.

Require an exact equipment and accessory schedule
A proposal should identify the model, suffix, refrigerant/generation when relevant and included accessories. A base model with an external pump is not the same purchase as a pump inside the cabinet. Similar family names can share a certified rating while their drain equipment differs. Ask whether collars, controller, pump reservoir, mounting kit, tubing and fittings are included, excluded or supplied by you. Compare those details before comparing totals.
| Line item | Ask the installer to identify | Compare as |
|---|---|---|
| Unit | Exact model/SKU and delivered version | Included / excluded / customer supplied |
| Access and mounting | Transport route, supports and service envelope | Included / excluded / unresolved |
| Drain | Gravity route, trap, pump and destination | Included / excluded / unresolved |
| Air and controls | Collars, duct layout and humidity control | Included / excluded / unresolved |
| Handover | Drain test, control setup and documentation | Included / excluded / unresolved |

Ask for the installed envelope, not just the cabinet
Include access to the filter, service panels, air openings and drain equipment. Ultra70’s current drawing separates its 22-inch bare body from 28 inches with collars. The filter-removal space and drain geometry are additional. E080/E100 documents give a 15-inch filter-extraction requirement on the chosen side. If instructions conflict, ask how the proposed layout reconciles them instead of allowing the smallest figure to become an unconditional fit approval.

Make the drain and electrical work explicit
Identify the condensate destination and how water reaches it, including any rise, reservoir and overflow provisions. Ask what electrical supply work is included and which model instructions and local requirements apply. The quote should distinguish connecting equipment to a suitable existing supply from work required to create one. Do not interpret a published current value as a finished electrical design. The installer should state who handles any separate work and permissions.

Check vertical lift and the complete pump route →Separate capacity justification from catalogue coverage
Ask why the proposed unit suits the actual moisture load, air distribution and lowest relevant condition. Advertised square footage is not a universal sizing calculation. A warm-condition rating does not establish cold-condition output, and a duct collar does not finish a whole-home design. A useful proposal explains the operating conditions and distribution plan alongside the model selection, rather than relying only on the largest headline pint number.
Check what changes near 50°F →Agree on commissioning, service and exclusions
Before accepting, ask how humidity control, air movement and drainage will be checked, which documents and model identification you will receive, and how future filter or pump service is accessed. Separate equipment warranty terms from installation labour and any follow-up service. Ask who responds to a fault and which parts of the proposal remain excluded. Keep written assumptions with the quote so a lower total does not conceal a missing route, accessory or necessary building task.
- Confirm the exact delivered model and accessory list.
- Agree on checking drainage and the intended controls during operation.
- Identify filter, pump and panel access for later maintenance.
- Record labour/service terms separately from the manufacturer warranty.

AprilAire E080 →
Its gravity base and separate pump option illustrate why an accessory schedule matters.
Before choosing: Include filter access, drain geometry and any separate supply or pump work.

Santa Fe Ultra70 →
Its bare and collared depths make the installed envelope a useful quote check.
Before choosing: The 12-inch body height is not the total mounting/drain envelope.
